About: The Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health prepares students for a wide range of careers related to the role of food in society, culture, health, and commerce. The department's innovative mission is to educate students, professionals, and the public about the role of food and nutrition in all aspects of life. Department programs apply and integrate this information through undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degree programs in four distinct but related areas of study: Nutrition and Dietetics, Food and Restaurant Management, the new field of Food Studies (with concentrations in Food Culture and Food Systems) , and Community Public Health (with a concentration in public health nutrition). About: With the growing awareness of the effect that food has on health and well-being, there is a great demand for culinary professionals who can prepare food that is not only beautiful and delicious, but health supportive as well. Our comprehensive Chef's Training Program, the only one of its kind, offers preparation for careers in health spas and restaurants, bakeries, private cooking, catering, teaching, consulting, food writing and a variety of entrepreneurial pursuits. The Chef's Training Program is licensed by the New York State Department of Education and accredited by ACCET. It is offered on both a full-time and part-time basis. The focus of this 619 hour program is mostly vegetarian, and also provides instruction in fish and organic poultry.
